08 Sep How to Avoid Working Yourself Into An Early Grave
John was a workaholic. He poured nearly every waking minute into work at the detriment of the main areas of his life, his health and his relationships.
On the outside John always appeared to be ‘happy’ and he avoided the pain he felt inside by keeping busy, medicated himself with alcohol and stuffed his feelings down through overeating.
One day he felt a tingle in his finger. Being a workaholic he didn’t have time to pay too much attention to it. After all he had meetings booked all day and they were more important than a tingle in his finger. As he was about to leave home, he collapsed. Luckily for him, there was another person in the house and they called the ambulance.
John had suffered a stroke. The warning signs were there all along. He smoked, was 30kg overweight, his diet was poor and exercise was spasmodic. He worked long hours and was under enormous pressure.
It was no surprise when this happened, it was just a matter of time. In this fast-paced society, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day busyness.
Take stock now of where you are and don’t put off short term pain for long term pleasure. If you’re aware that you’re spiralling out of control, don’t procrastinate and get the help you need to get back on track…while you still can!
